Additional Details

An allegorical depiction of Franklin being crowned by Liberty, as he sits by a globe and a scroll with the constitution of Pennsylvania. It was described in the Pennsylvania Gazette of 31 March 1779. The source is usually credited to a sketch by Jean Honoré Fragonard. Not often seen untrimmed. Talbott, "Franklin in Search of a Better World," page 9.
